Soon it is Christmas. We wanted to take this oppertunity to write an article about the different traditions in the countries we mainly translate for.
In China many young people in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan celebrate Christmas and the New Year as most on the West. The important celebration is the Autumn Spring Festival and is comparable with the New Year. This year it is 22. January 2023, the year of the rabbit.
In England the New Year is celebrated from the 31.12 to the 01.01 and most people sing „Auld Lang Syne“
In France people eat out and celebrate more than in other countries. Christmas presents are not as common as New years Cards with „Bonne Année“
In Germany in some families the presents can only be opened after New Year’s Eve on the 22.12 and the president’s speech is quite popular at this time.
In Russia the president’s speech is especially popular at this time of year. The New Year is celebrated on the 31 to the 01.01, but Christmas on the 07.01 according to the Julian calendar.
In Spain there is a big lottery, that has cheaper prices than usual for Christmas which most people take part in.
